The Big-5 Challenge – the legendary freeride test in the Bike Circus Saalbach Hinterglemm

The cable car lines are an important helps as they deal with most of the altitude difference. The freeride pros have to cope with "only" 500 metres, the rest is left to the cable cars.
The XXL tour through the Salzburg summer
You are free to tackle the Big-5-Bike Challenge all summer long. You can complete the XXL tour as often as you like, but here's a word of warning: The entire round with all five summits will take up almost the whole day - to keep up with the best, speed is of the essence! And it wouldn't be a real challenge if there wasn't a trophy waiting at the end of it. At the end of the season, all successful challenges take part in a fantastic prize draw! So join in the fun - it will be worth your while!
Five summits
The mountain bike challenge takes you up to the summits of the five most popular freeride mountains in the bike Eldorado that is Saalbach Hinterglemm:
- Schattberg (2,020m)
- Reiterkogel (1,500 m)
- Asitz (1,780 m)
- Kohlmais (1,780 m)
- Zwölferkogel (1,884 m)
All cable cars are suitable for transporting bikes.
Please note: The 12er KOGEL gondola lift takes bikers only as far as the middle station!
Big-5 trail, checkpoints & online portal
The entire tour is signposted with the Big-5-Bike logo and takes you past 13 checkpoints in total, where participants can register their performance and progress using their key card. Every turnstile at the valley stations of the cable car lines also functions as a checkpoints. The remaining checkpoints are spaced along the trail. At some of the checkpoints, you should prepare to smile - they include a photo station that automatically takes a picture of every biker, against the breathtaking mountain panorama of Saalbach Hinterglemm. The picture is then uploaded on the Big-5 online portal where it may be accessed by the challengers, shared with friends or on social media.
