Have you taken the weather into account?

Don't forget that weather conditions in the mountains can change quickly. Even if the sun is shining when you set out, there is likely to be a cool breeze further up. Rain protection also needs to be a fixture in every backpack. If the trail becomes too difficult, fog develops or if the weather changes dramatically for the worse, always turn back.

  • Hiking shoes: robust, ankle-high boots with a sturdy profile
  • Sturdy socks that fit snugly and do not crease + one spare pair. When it comes to material, a blend of wool and other fibres is ideal.
  • Outdoor clothing: Choose comfortable, practical items as well as rainwear that is light and may be stowed away without taking up much space. We also recommend waterproof trousers.
  • Light gloves; hat or headband to protect from wind
  • Sun glasses

How to keep your energy levels up

Pack enough drinking water, depending on the length of your hike. To keep you going and fight off hunger pangs, take snacks that contain complex carbohydrates and vitamins. We recommend sandwiches made with wholegrain bread and vegetables cut into small pieces. Fruit such as apples or pears are also good sources of energy, as are bananas. However, make sure you store them securely and eat them before they get squashed! Muesli and energy bars as well as dried fruit and nuts also provide energy fast. Sweet treats are great rewards when you have reached your destination or to motivate you along the way!
