Mittersill national park centre

"Nature is close enough to touch" in the national park worlds in Mittersill. The highest peak in Austria, the Großglockner at almost 3,800 m, is located in one of Europe's most impressive national parks with another 342 glaciers. In the national park centre in Mittersill you are guided from one natural region to the next and find out a number of interesting details about the national park and its flora and fauna.

The national park worlds are open every day between 9.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. Guided tours are possible for groups on request. With the Saalbach-Hinterglemm Joker Card you even receive a 25% discount off the admission price.

Großglockner High Alpine Road

The Großglockner High Alpine Road in the federal state of Salzburg leads with 36 hairpin bends and a climb in altitude of up to 2,504 metres over a length of 48 km directly to Austria's highest mountain, the Großglockner. The High Alpine Road is one of Europe's most beautiful pass roads, and on your way to the Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Höhe, it leads through the Upper Tauern national park. The Großglockner High Alpine Road is a unique outdoor experience and one of Austria's most popular day trip destinations both for the whole family as well as for enthusiastic cyclists or motorcyclists.

Ferleiten wildlife park/leisure park

During an approximately one hour hike through the approx. 15 hectare wildlife park, which is also suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs, you can find more than 200 animals at home in the Alps. The park is just before the toll station, right next to the Großglockner road.

Right next door is the Ferleiten leisure park. Fun and games are the top priority here over 2,000 m². Admission to the leisure park is free.

Kaprun reservoir lake

The 107 m high almost vertical towering mountain dam is one of the most imposing structures built by human hand in the state of Salzburg. Visitors are brought to the Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden reservoir lakes by shuttle bus. Anyone who wants to be impressed by the technology behind it can admire the inner workings of the structure on one of the guided tours and find out interesting details and the history of the dam from experts. Anyone who feels hungry after so much information can enjoy regional delicacies in the mountain restaurant with wonderful panorama from the sun terrace.

Krimml Waterfalls and Krimml Achental valley

The Krimml waterfalls impress as the fifth highest waterfalls in the world with a waterfall drop of 380 m. However, it's not just the waterfalls that are an impressive natural spectacle, in the predominantly inner Alpine spruce and fir tree forests around the waterfalls there are also 327 moss species, among other things, which thrive superbly in the spray of the Krimml waterfalls. The area of the Krimml Achental valley has been a conservation area since 1958. The regional government of Salzburg declared the Krimml waterfalls a natural monument in 1961.

Werfen giant ice caves

The giant ice caves in Werfen consist of a labyrinth of more than 40 km of caves. The caves developed during the course of the mountain rises approx. 100 million years ago and have been enlarged and shaped by chemical processes and water erosion since then. Resulting in one giant dynamic ice cave. The temperature in the cave may vary depending on the outdoor temperature. Various openings allow the melt water in spring to penetrate resulting in the fascinating ice structures in the undercooled areas of the cave.

Salzburg open-air museum

Visitors can admire 100 reconstructions of original buildings from the past in the open-air museum. This journey through time includes buildings from agriculture, handicrafts, rural commerce and industry. The open-air museum also has another treat to offer train fans. The museum railway leads through the site on a 1.7 km long track. 69 people can travel on the journey from "Flachgau" train station next to the museum entrance to "Pongau" the end station.

Hellbrunn Palace and the water features

Hellbrunn is listed in every guide book. The impressive palace was built in the 17th century under the Salzburg Prince Archbishop Markus Sittikus. Hellbrunn Palace was designed in Late Gothic style by the Italian architect Santino Solari.

The Mirabell Gardens were opened to the public for the first time in 1854. The garden created with an impressive display of flowers, the Pegasus fountain in front of Mirabell Palace, the dwarf garden and hedge theatre are popular photo motifs with all visitors – by tourists and locals.
